Help! My daughter got heat rash!

Since Sunday we noticed some rashes around Hayley's feet and body. They looked like blisters or small mosquito bites or Chinese called it 'fung mok'. Some appeared in patches, some just one or two. Sometimes they even appear on the face. The heat rash will appear out of the blue and then suddenly disappears. Initially we though it was food allergy but we did not recall giving her anything strange or new prior to the symptoms.

After monitoring her for a few days, we noticed that she will get the rashes more when she was hot ie in the afternoon and they will apparently get better after she has had her bath.

Both the babysitter and my mother said not to worry about it as they are just heat rash and will go away in a few days. My mom who was an ex nurse asked me to apply some calamine lotion when the patches appear. The rashes doesn't seem to bother Hayley as well.

Today is Thursday (5 days after the first symptom) and the babysitter said she is still getting the rash in the afternoon. When we took her home in the evening, only a few could be seen, probably because it was cooler in the evening.

What should I do now? How long more do I have to wait before I have to bring her to a doctor? My mom said there is nothing the doctor could do, they probably will prescribe some cream or some medicine to treat the itch. Have anyone else experience this before? Is there any other home remedy that I could try?

Errmm...me! I used to have this as a kid and I remembered it was not a few days leh. I had it for a few weeks. Went to the doc's but he prescribed me some ointment to ease the itch but it didn't help. Then my parents got some grass for me to bathe with and after a few times, the rashes were gone. If not mistaken it was called pok pok grass

Traditional remedy is "water powder" .. our grandmothers used to splash on our face with that.. but difficult to find the homemade ones.. "sui fun" hope it helps..

Sorry not sure of any home remedies. Normally fong mok will go away after some time. But if it is heat related, the obvious would be keeping the child cool and calamine. As a pharmacist, i think the doc would probably give antihistamine for the itch and calamine cream...
DO you have any zyrtec or aerius syrup at home? could try giving that for 3-4 days and see how...

My son got it too a few months back. It just appeared without any sign or fever. My mom will apply "bedak" to cool it down. Avoid going under the sun for a few days and drink more water. Doctor gave me calamine as well. Nothing else.

I see... Juan Juan has this quite often(specially around her neck), the specialist diagnosed as Eczema. He prescribed some steroidal ointment, the rash did fade but when she sweats it occurs again... I just make sure she baths 3x a day and keep her neck clean and cool by frequent wiping, apply medicated powder and Cetaphil moisturizing lotion. frankly, none of the remedy would beat the heat and hot weather... sigh~!:(

Take care and have a nice day!

rashes tak boleh baik in a few days kalau every day panas - but the fact that yr girl has it sebab kulit dia sensitif - try guna body wash lactycd - my eldest used to have bad rashes dulu i guna ni utk mandi and badan if teruk sgt i guna zaricof - beli from pharmacist kat pharmacy but if it not too bad mandian lactycd tu ok da

i tak suka guna bedak if the rashes teruk sgt bukan macam temporary measure nanti berpeluh jugak

Thank you to all the mummies who shared your tips and advises. Happy to say that after about a week (I personally got to see how she's like over the weekend myself rather than just relying on the infor provided by the babysitter), her rashes are almost gone.. with just a couple here and there when she was really hot and no more big patches. I guess it means they are leaving soon... yippeee... :-)
